Photorealistic 3D animation

Emelody is a product research and development company that engineers product concepts and prototypes for their clients. Over the years, I have worked closely with them to help produce engaging promotional videos and images to help their clients sell concepts to potential investors.

The process is very detail oriented. Often clients don’t have the means to create a physical prototype to photograph, so being able to have realistic looking images and video that show functionality in a clear and unambiguous way is a valuable and efficient promotional resource. Combining technical CAD files, a sense of storytelling, and carefully building realistic visuals, these projects are challenging and rewarding.

Process

Projects begin with a product model, which is imported from AutoCAD or another engineering software. The model is cleaned up and prepped for animation.

A storyboard is put together, and then made into an Animatic, also called a Previz. This is used to nail down camera angles and movement, determine how important features of the product will be highlighted, and get a good idea of what the final video will look like.

Render

After the storyboard and animatic are approved, materials are applied to the model with special attention to detail, and modified as needed to make them look as real as possible.

The final videos and images are then rendered out and delivered to the client.
